Over the coming weeks I am going to be attempting my very first viral campaign.
A viral campaign is something that has interested me for a long time, and if done properly it can be one of the most powerful tools any webmaster has.
So what is a viral campaign?
For this viral campaign I have chosen Bird Flu. My aim will be to get an infected chicken and take it to Asda with me at peak hours.
WikiPedia: Viral marketing sometimes refers to Internet-based stealth marketing campaigns, including the use of blogs, seemingly amateur web sites, and other forms of astroturfing, designed to create word of mouth for a new product or service. Often the goal of viral marketing campaigns is to generate media coverage via “offbeat” stories worth many times more than the campaigning company’s advertising budget.
Viral Campaign Stey by Step
Firstly I need to find something that is going to get a reaction from people and get them talking. I have already chosen what this will be.
Next step is to create a site that is going to get your point across and act as a call to action for the readers.
After that will be the promotion of the site via related sites.
Ending with a mass press release to relevant sources.
The goal is similar to the butterfly effect, meaning that everyone who reads the site is a potential spokesman for your site. If enough people become spokesmen then the site can really snowball.
Before the end of the week I intend to have the site up and running and then I will aim to start phase one of the promoting over the weekend.
I will be putting progress reports on here on a regular basis, so if you have never done a viral campaign before then stay tuned and perhaps we can learn together.
I mentioned last week that my eyes were hurting from the 14 hour days on the pc. I am now seeing little images when i move my eyes. You can re-create this at home by staring into a light for a few seconds and then looking away.
I have booked an appoinment with the scary and expensive eye doctor here in Madrid and will be going on the 9th of this month. Hopefully it will be temporary, but something is wrong and I am fearing the worst.
Where would we be without pointless facts?
here is a little gem for you:
What is the world’s longest abbreviation?
Meaning: Laboratory for Shuttering, Reinforcement, Concrete and Ferroconcrete Operations for Composite-monolithic and Monolithic Constructions of the Department of Technology of Building Assembly Operations of the Scientific Research Institute of the Organization for Building Mechanization and Technical Aid of the Academy of Building and Architecture of the USSR.
Since selling my main network of sites last Friday I intended to take things easy and take a step back for a while. To be honest I am doing as much work as ever. Part of the agreement with the new site owner was that I would help him out on a weekly basis to help promote the sites further and to help convert the traffic. With this and all of the teaching him how to use all aspects of the sites I have been working just as much as usual.
I am happy to help him, but I think it will be at least a week before I take a step back.
Some of you may have signed up for my FREE E-BOOK, and you may have noticed that you have not been sent the first part yet. Basically I got distracted because of the unexpected sale of my main sites. I will get the viral campaign out of the way and then I will send part one soon after that. (I promise)
Thankfully ideas are not something that I have a problem with. However, I am still always keen to hear your suggestions for my next project. So if you have any ideas then use the Contact form.
